Where's Your Duck Been?

Here I will be explaining the whole idea of Where’s Your Duck Been? , where the idea came from and what makes it different.

WheresYourDuckBeen.com started out as a small idea my brother had continued after a friend of his gave him a small yellow rubber duck after it was announced she was unable to go on a holiday she originally planned. Since the day she gave my brother the rubber duck he took around 100 photos in different locations from England, Egypt, Afghanistan, Canada, Poland and many other distant countries while he traveled the world with the British Forces.

I followed the stream of pictures he took while continuing to travel the world and while discussing the reason why he’d taken these pictures we started to discuss ways how this humorous idea of traveling the world with a rubber duck could be implemented as a website. Being a web designer myself I brainstormed ideas to start a website design and how the whole site will function.

Since the day I found this idea to be a possible successful new venture for myself I have continued to progress and develop the site, and continue to do so today.

Why use WheresYourDuckBeen.com and not other photo sharing websites such as “flickr”?

Since starting and promoting my new web start up venture, most reactions from various people have been positive towards the website idea but some quite rightly want to know why they should choose my site to join and not others such as “flickr”.

My response has always been the fact that although also being a ‘photo sharing community’ the unique twist in idea of the duck(s) being included in each and every photo uploaded by all members, creates much more of a community feeling as members then have a common interest towards other members while seeing them follow the same trend and idea than themselves.

This ‘common interest’ psychologically creates a relationship between yourself and all other members seeing as no matter where you or another member may be in the world your both following the same idea for the same website.

A large number of the currently available photo sharing community’s are used more for ‘storage’ purposes by its users and don’t have any drive to connect one member to another and so on. Our website is focused on an idea that members of all ages can enjoy, get inspired, and be creative.

Just the simple idea of the rubber duck has had an positive effect on members already, I’m sure we all remember having or seeing them in our childhood at sometime or even still collecting them as a hobby like a lot of our members do. We see them everywhere already from the well known ‘02 advert’ ‘Rubber Duck Derby’s’ and various other places and events.

The website already has a lot of the features a community like ours needs to connect members, and continue to grow.

Can I use my own duck or where could I get one?

A common question also asked by many. Users may already have a toy duck to use for the site which is very welcome. However for those that do not currently have one, we also have a store filled with all different types, available for purchase direct from the website.

The reason for this is during the initial research for the website, I found it surprisingly hard to find local shops that stocked toy ducks such as those currently used on our site although still a very popular toy. We then decided to stock and sell various types enabling our users to easily purchase and use for the site and continue the trend.

Thank you for reading and we welcome you to our website.
